DISTRICT NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondents.)
TE WHARAU.
The dry weather continues here, and the country on all sides bears a verj parched appearance. No rain has fallen for a month, and in many cases water has to be carried for household purposes. The deer-stalking season opened here on Saturday last, and although several camping parties have been out during the week, no sensational "heads" have been shot. Several big "heads," however, have been seen in the vicinity of To Wharau quite lately. Several of our more enterprising citizens have lately gone in for motorcycles, and find them most convenient for business, the roads in the district being in an almost perfect condition present. The contract for the Lands EndCrasrie Lea Road has been sucured by Mr W. Reeves, and the formation is already well under way. This road, when completed; will give a much needed outlet to a number of settlers. Messrs P. Rummer and J. Tatham have left this week for Martinborough, where they will spend a week or two deer-stalking. Both these gentlemen are well-known sportsmen, and may be expected to "bag" something more than ordinary. Messrs Brechin and Cox, who have been on an extended tour in the south, returned to Te Wharau yesterday, feeling much benefited by"their trio.; Messrs Ross and Mcintosh, of Flat Point, spent the week-end in visiting friends in Te Wharau.
It is exoected that several interesting engagements will be announced in this district shortlv.
