MASTERTON FIRE BOARD.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Masterton Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, in the office of the secretary (Mr R. Brown), there being present: Messrs 0. N. C. Pragnell (chairman), R. J. White, J. C. Ewington, and: J. P. Prentice.
A letter was received from Mr A. M. Simpson, re a suitable date for meeting the Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs and notifying the appointment of Wednesday, March 22nd, for the election of a successor to Mr C. Pearce.— Received.
The Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade wrote for a rule book and information re the forming of a fire district, and the Feiiding Fire Board wrote asking for details of the tire alarm system.— In both cases it was decided to supply the information.
A letter was read from Superintendent in which the latter applied for the amount on the Estimates for the expenses of the team and delegates to Hokitika.— The secretary explained that payment at the rate of £2 per man had been made on the authority of the chairman and local committee.
The action was approved. ■ Superintendent Lewis, of the Masterton branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, applied for the use of one of the rooms at the fire station for meetings and practices. He stated that the members were mostly Brigadesmen and Fire Police, and the ambulance litter and surgical haversack had been placed in the station for the use of the fire department.— The application was granted.
The Acting Town Clerk forwarded an account for £l2 13s 2d from the Postmaster for the maintenance of the electric fire alarms to December 31st, 1911, and asking the Board to pay same.— The account was 'passed for payment.
The payment of an account of £65 for two horses for the Jubilee engine was approved. A memorandum of the duties of the custodian and engine driver waß adopted, and it was decided to supply copies to the. custodian and the secretaries of the Brigade and Fire Police. The secretary was instructed to ask Superintendent Jenkins to try and arrange for more men to sleep at the Central Station, also to ask how many firemen live south of K!uripuni station. It was decided to have a storage shed erected at a cost not to exceed £55. The chairman and Mr Prentice wer-e appointed to supervise the work.
It was also decided to request the Borough Council to stipulate in issuing permits to light fires in the open that such fires shall not be. allowed to burn after sundown.
