OBITUARY.
MR JOHN;, JUDD
There died at Grey town yesterday morning.'one of the.pioneer settlers | of the Wairarapa district, in the ; person, of Mr John Judd. The de- j ceased, who was 77 years of age, landed in- Wellington in 1841. Twenty years later he made his way to Greytown and purchased a 40- ' aero section of land in Kuratawhiti Street, which was then standing hush. He built a house on his section, and by perseverance and a stout heart he tiirried tlie wilderness into a smiling -homo, in which, hb has resided ever .since. Mr; Judd married Miss' Thomas?*.' a sister , of Mrs Hawke and Mr M. Thomas, of Moroa. They reared 14 childrennine sons and five daughters—all of whom are alive hut William, who died at Masferton five year's ago. Messrs John, George, and Robert Judd, and the' widow of the departed son live at Manaia, Masterton; Messrs Joseph and James at Eketahuna, amdi Harry at Napier, the home farm being divided between the two youngest sons, Fred and Frank, while the widow and Miss Juddi reside at tlie old house at home. To each of the four married daughters ho gave a good dowry at their marriage. They are Mesdame? Udy, Brunton, Rogers and F! Wood. The late Mr Judd took a keen interest in all public life, though of a retiring disposition. He was a member of the Wiiiohine River Board for many years { until (failing health caused him to retire. He was a most agreeable neighbour, kindly and sympathetic to all. During the latter part of his life he suffered a most painful illness, which he bore with fortitude.
