KASPARORO.
The rainfall during the past week : totalled 4.2 inches. It has proved of immense benefit to pastures, and the country now presents a fairly verdant appearance. Turnip and rape crops ' have considerably revived, and the prospects of farmers are therefore much improved. Owing to the activity of the County Inspector, a determined effort is being made by land-owners to destroy noxious weeds. These generally prove a great trouble in dairying districts, but the bulk of the settlers here have a good deal of foresight, and seem to fully realise that in this matter "a stitch in time saves nine." The milk supply at the cheese factory shows a marked decrease, but still there is sufficient work to keep two assistants employed. Most of the residents of the district journeyed to tsketahuna on Thursday to attend the autumn show. Quite a number of exhibits were sent from here, and exhibitors in most cases t managed to secure prizes. * A sharp shock of earthquake was! felt at half past eleven on Friday [ night. It caused a good deal of alarm, but no damage is reported.
