STREET BETTING.

WELLINGTON, Monday. Henry Jackson, said to be a waterside worker, was fined £25 and costs this morning for street betting. r - FIRE AT AVONSIDE. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A dwelling house in Retreat Road, Avonside, owned by C. W. Williams, , was totally destroyed by fire. . The building being outside the city limits, the services of the Fire Brigade were not requisitioned. The place had been -■ Untenanted for some time. Williams was, it is stated, absent in the North Island, whilst his wife was staying at New Brighton. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. Both the building and its contents were insured in the alliance office for £700.,
