LADIES' SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP.

SPLENDID PERFORMANCES BY ' MISS A. O'LEARY.

A very creditable performance was put. up by Miss Annie O'Leary, of Masterton, on Saturday, when she won the ladies' 100 yards swimming championship at the Wellington carnival by about 10 yards. Miss O'Leary further distinguished herself by swimming the 50 yards.event in 36 seconds, thus establishing a ladies' record for New' :Zeas'nd, .while she. also secured first' placo in the diving competition.

' When the Dixon Street baths were first opened Miss O'Leary commenced her career as a swimmer, and at the inaugural carnival of the Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club she attracted a great deaf of admiration byher powerful • stroke. At , the age of 13 years she entered for the championship and won it with comparative ease. Since then there have been two carnivals held under the auspices /.of the Masterton Ladies Swimming Club, and at both of these Miss O'Leary has easily won the championship. Miss O'Leary should stand a very good chance if, as suggested, there Avere a New Zealand championship for ladies.. It is interesting to note that Miss is still only fifteen' years of ag&, a fact which increases the credit of her performances at Wellington.
