THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.
The final screening of, the current programme at the Foresters' Hall on Saturday night, drew a packed house, standing room only being available after eight o'clock. This evening tht bill of fare will consist of a grand array of the very latest productions in picture plays, which cannot fail to attract another big audience at the Masterton Electric Theatre." Among the drqmas will be the following: "A Kentucky Pioneer" (a sensational story of the early days in the United States, wlvon might was right), "Two '.Little Waifs" "(a delightful .fairy" tale of a most pathetic character), and "At the Mercy of'the'Tide?' (a thrilling subject). Comedy-drama, now so popular: with audiences, will a strong feature of the programme, the pictures to be shown being "Jean, the Match Maker," Magic Flute," and "A Lunatic at Large." The scenicswill include;"A day in the Life of a Coal Miner," "Scenes in Colombo,": and "Castles and Country Seats in Italy." The audience which will greet Miss Castles at her concert in Masterton on Wednesday next bids fair to be one of the largest ever assembled in the Town Hall. menting on her first concert in Dunedin, the Otago Daily Times states that. "the pleasurable anticipation of music-lovers respecting, her reappearance in Dunedin was amply' .realised, the opening coricei't proving from beginning to end a pronounced success, " and, " reaching a high., level of artistic excellence. As a concert singer Miss Castles possesses all the qualities indispensable to those who. would excel, and her engaging .stage personality enhances the impression created by her fine proficiency in the vocal art. • Her methods are to-day those of the finished artist, and 'the results command the highest' admiration and respect. As for her voice, its natural beauty and) purity of tone would commend it under any circumstances, and used a.s it is with all the knowledge,' skill, and confidence acquired by the best (training and experience, its charm is undeniable and exceptional. The recent season of opera, led many .to the conclusion that in,,vocal drama Miss Castles found! her happiest medium of expression, and • the impression still holds good. . It is when exercised in the more impassioned passages of operatic music that her voice and her singing * cast their strongest spell.
