YOUNG BIRD RACE
The young bird race flown on Saturday under the'auspices of the Masterton Homing Pigeon Club from Dannevirke, which is an airline distance of 69 miles, resulted in the-'clos-est'finish that has ever come under the Club's notice The first and second bird were separated by five seconds, and there was only 15 seconds between the second and third birds. Seventy competitors, representing fifteen lofts, were liberated by the stationmaster at 3.45 p.m., and the first bird to arrive home was E. Wickens' "Navy Blue," which covered the distance in 2 hours 45 minutes. W. Gourlay's "Meteorite"" was second in 2 hrs 45 mins 5 sees, and A. Millers's "Clinker" third in 2 hours 45 minutes 15 seconds. Only four birds arrived home :on Saturday night.. The leading owners in the grand aggregate are as follows: —3".' Dixon 28, A. Miller 26, P. Rosson 20, W. Drake 18, W. Hoar 17.
