(From Our Own Correspondents.)
TE WHARAU.
Heavy rain has fallen here for the past few days. Poisoning and dipping operations, which are employing a good number of men, are suspended owing to the rain. Mr Wilson, rabbit inspector, has been visiting this district this week, and reports that in some parts rabbits are very numerous, and that a large amount of poisoning will be required to cope with this evidently increasing pest. Mrs Xicolson, who has for the past five years kept the To Wharau hoarding house, has sold Iter interest to Mr F. C. H. Cotter, and left this district last Monday. Prior to her departure Mrs Xicolson was the recipient of a purse of sovereigns and a handbag from pns£ and present boarders. Mrs Xicolson and family contemplate taking up land in the Carterton district. A cricket match botiveen teams representing Kaiwhata and Homewood, versus Flat Point and Glenhurn, was to have taken place on Saturday, but owing to the heavy rain, will probably be postponed. This is nn annual fixture, and attracts a good deal of interest in the district. Mr Bedford, of Dunodin, will give mi address on the Xo-license question in Te Wharau on the 14th inst, when it is expected that a large attendance will assemble to hear Mr Bedford on this all-absorbing question. Mrs .7. TV Hornsby and Miss John son. of Carterton, are visitors to the Te Wharau district at the present time.
