There are persistent rumours that American enterprise, operating along monopolistic lines, is being directed to the Australian and New Zealand msat industry. A letter has been ! ;e;,eived by Mr W. Foster, managing director c f the Wellington Meat Export Company, from an American correspondent, who informs him that Swift and are going to operate through vt'o-is concerns in mutton and lambs of Now; Zealand and Australian, origin. The Swifts are issuing hew seven per cent stock to the extent of fifteen million dollars. As much of this as possible will be placed in Australasia amongst producers, to enable them to "cut their own throats." When this 'was brought under the notice of the Premier, he" said in the event of the Mont Trust operating in New Zealand, there would he no hesitation in dealing 1 with the evil., even if it meant, nationalising the whole Dominioii's refrigerai ,' .- r \ ' ' .. ,'
