THE TARANAKI OILFIELDS.

MR J. D. HENRY BANQUETTE!)

[By Telegraph—Press Association.']

NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Mr J/D. Henry, the British petroleum expert, was entertained at dinner 'last night by the -Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, forty or fifty leading citizens attending. In the course,of .ah address iir response, to the toasi of his health, Mr Henry recalled Mr Charles Marvin's advice to the British people, many years ago, "To keep a sharp eye on Baku," and said when he returned to London he would advise'people to keep a sharp eye on the Taranaki oilfields, and those of New Zealand generally. He was convinced that there is a great oilfield underlying New Ply-. mouth and extending over a' much larger area than is generally supposed, and'only wanting capital and enterprise to develop. He urged the local people to. get busy and to ally themselves with British capitalists, predicting that in five years the "production of oil would bury gold out. of sight. Regarding the proposed purchase of the Taranaki Petroleum Company by his principals, he could only say that negotiations were proceeding which he hoped would be successful. , Mr Henry is leaving for Auckland to-night, and he takes his final departure on Monday for California arid Mexico.
