(Received Last .Night, 10.50 o'clock.)
LONDON, March 1
In the House of Commons, Mr D. Kilbride, Nationalist M.P., for Kildare, South Division, inquired concerning the Rijiiit Hon. R. B. Haldane having given the Swift Meat Company, of America, the contract for the supply of frozen meat for the Curragh oamp while the United States Government was fighting the Beef Trust as an unfair and illegal combination. Mr Haldane replied that the points mentioned would be considered in connection with the next contracts. He did not consider it necessary to disturb the contract* expiring in May. Mr J. o.'Connor asked if the House of Commons was not combatting trusts, and wether it was proper for a Freetrade Government to encourage a trust wiiose profits were founded' on Protection. (Opposition cheers.) Mr Haldane replied that lie did not think that the protective tariff had much to do with the matter. He added:"."As. a Freetrade Government we get the best article possible at the most moderate price."
