MR MANSFIELD'S RESIGNATION ACCEPTED. ... QUESTION OF A . SUCCESSOR. At the meeting of tJie Mastertou Borough Council last evening, the Town Clerk and Engineer (Mr W. T. Mansfield) forwarded his resignation. ..The resignation was", read by the Mayor' as follows:—'.'l beg to tenresignation as Town Clerk ;and. the various other'offices in connection with the position which I have held since October, 1907, owing to the fact that I have been appointed engineer to the Wanganui Borough Council. I would be glad to be relieved of my duties as soon as possible.— (Signed) W- T. MANSFIELD." The Mayor expressed his regret at the fact that Mr Mansfield had tendered his resignation. During Mr Mansfield's term of office he had been twice Mayor, and his (the Mayor's) work had been very easy. The Mayor, with the consent of the seconder, withdrew his motion in favour of the amendment, but he stated thai it was only shirking responsibility in postponing tho. matter. No Councillor seconded this amendment, and the motion was carried.
