IN CANADA AND UNITED STATES. THE RECIPROCITY AGREEMENT (Received February 14, 8.5 a.m.) NEW YORK, February 13. Mr C. N. Armstrong, of Montreal, who is prominent hi the Canadian railway world, is now in London. He condemns the Canadian-American reciprocity agreement. Jn an interview lie stated that despite a considerable rise during the last decade the prices of food in Montreal was 30 per cent, below those of New York. Beef, which was formerly 7d a pound, is now Is; mutton, which used to lie 6d, is now Is; butter, formerlv 10d, is now Is Bd. ' If the agreement wore ratified it would speedily raise Canadian prices to the level of New York, and .the Canadian wage-earner would suffer. -It was probable that New Zealand mutton would finally be imported, and the American Beef Trust would import Canadian live stock, cornering beef on both sides of the line.
