A MASTEHTPN CONTINGENT. 1 Some time ago Mr. Sedgwick, who visited New Zealand, decided to assist fifty English lads to the Dominion, and find tliern work , on the la'nd.' He approached\th6'New Zealand) Labour Department, which guaranteed to find positions for all the boys. The boys were carefully I selected, and they all arrived ..in 'Wellington on Wednesday night, Officers of the Labour Department took charge of them, and after allotting them their positions they were taken, in the train by the officers, who put them off. at the proper stations. The first lot (four) for" Masterton, arrived here pn Thursday evening, audi were , met by the local Inspector of Factories (Mr J. , Georgeson), who introduced them to tlieir employers. Altogether there, are eiglitjads/to come to the Masterton district, all hailing from Liver■"pool. Of tho fuW-ftnir,; -one was engaged at Home as a'casemaker, one as. a Post Office messenger, orio -in a commercial house, and the other had done work on a farm. They are sturdy, fine-looking lads, and should readily adapt themselves to their new surroundings. Kaituna, Kopuaranga, Flat Point and Bideford are the destinations of the boys that came to Masterton. One lad was expected to arrive last evening.
