NAPIER SHOOTING CASE.
ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. By Teharovih—Frets Association. NAPIER, Last Night. Alexander Strachan, a man about 40 years of age, who fired a revolver at Herbert Sidney Bradley at Taradale last Wednesday, appeared before the Magistrate's Court to-day. The evidence showed that Strachan A had been drinking for'two days before " the incident. He talked of shooting Ids wife and committing suicide. He was heard to say that there should be the biggest-tragedy that had ever happened in Taradale. Strachan had a quarrel with Bradley a year ago, but not of a serions character. Ho purchased the revolver and fifty cartridges on Tuesday, ostensibly for pig-shooting. There were no signs of liquor on him on Wednesday. He was a hard-woi-king, respectable man when sober, but is a prohibited person, and has been imprison- \ ed for breach of the order. ," He was committed for trial, the Magistrate refusing bail on the ground that the evidence tended to show mental degeneration.
