WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY.
STATIONS FOR NEW ZEALAND. INTERESTING STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. An interesting statement relative to the wireless stations proposed to be established in New Zealand was made by the Prime Minister at St. Kilda. last night; Sir. Joseph Ward said that'the first wireless station at • Wellington had already received messages from a distance of 800 miles. He would reach Wellington in.a day or two, and the Government would then accept tenders for the erection of wireless stations in New Zealand, two of which would be high powered and four low powered stations. The low powered stations would bo ready in six months, and the high powered ones in eight months. He hoped one of the low powered stations would be at the southern islands, where there had been many vessels wrecked ! on their way from Australia to London. In the next eight months, therefore, the Dominion would have a thoroughly up-to-date wireless systern of wireless stations. When they •• j were in operation New Zealand would i * not be behind any other country in J the world, and would be in com- < I munieation with, every ; passenger [.steamer around our coast, and . would be able to communicate at , night time with any vessel within j 1400 or 1000 miles.
