STRIKE OF RAILWAY WORK- ■ • ERS. .. : V ALL SHOPS SHUT. (Received This Morning, 12.3, a.m.) LISBON, January 12. A strike of railwaymen for an eight hours day and increased wage has occurred. The increases demanded amount to £120,000 annually, and the companies have Conceded £40,000 a rid a nine;'hours' day. ; No trains are running throughout Portugal, and the Government aro organising a motor .car post. j; The strikers' committee: is discouraging sobotege. ' The, shop. hands/iajjiaboii ;are also striking for a twelve hours, day and 'Sundays holiday. ? All the shops are closed, v The Minister of the Interior has promised redress at the earliest possible opportunity. Several encounters have occurred in the streets between the. strikers and those objecting to the strike. The Republican Guard has dispersed the demonstrators.
