CODDLING THE MAORI.

For the last two or ' three decades the politicians of New Zealand have been "coddling" the Maori. With one hand they have purloined his estate, and with the other have spoon-fed Itim. The time .has about j arrived when .the Maori jrace should - be merged into.the European, and have the. same- responsibilities and the same privileges. . It is -nonsense to say that"" the Native is incapable of looking after his own interests.. He is just as, full of cunning, and what is termed business acumen, as the average white man. He knows just how many blue beans make five.. But so long as he is'"coddled" he will be a menace to the State and an enemy to himself. .
