A SEAMEN'S DISPUTE.
PROVISIONAL AGREEMENT. (Received Last Night, 9.40 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, December 30. As a result of a conference between the Registrar of the Federal Arbitration Court and representatives of the Steamship Owners' Federation and Federation of Seamen's Unions, a provincial agreement has been reached for continuing work until an award of the Court, or a new and final agreement between the owners and seamen has been obtained. The two parties agreed to recommend the acceptance of the provisional agreement, which operates from January Ist, to their respective organisations. It is understood that the agreement provides for a compromise both in regards to rates of pay and to conditions of employment.
