BOLTON DISASTER

vigtisvss number m. (Received Last Night, 9.40 o'clock.) LONDON, December 30. The victims of the Bolton colliery explosion number 341, of whom 190 are single. The married men leave 153 widows and 273 children. Two bodies were recovered in a better state of preservation than the rest, which suggests that some of the victims lived for a day or more after the explosion. Mr Gerard Crowt, Inspector of Mines, states that it is impossible that an electrical coal-cutter could have caused the explosion, as the electricity was disconnected at the time of the disaster. He is satisfied, himself, that electricity must be eliminated from the possible causes. The relief funds, for the assistance of the families of those who were killed, already total £57,510, including £13,000 from Manchester, and £12,900 from Liverpool. Sir George Reid, High Commissioner, has forwarded the Common--wealth's donation of £2OOO. The Daily News, commenting on the donation from the Commonwealth, says this is a signal exhibition of brotherly feeling, which will strengthen the ties binding Great Britain to the Colonies in the Far South.
