FIRE IN WELLINGTON.
*» o --~- By Telegraph — Press 'lssociation. WELLINGTON, Friday. At a quarter to five tTiis morning a fire broke out in a wooden building of two floors, opposite the' Royal Oak Hotel, Manners Street. A stiff southerly was blowing, but the Brigade confined the flames to the premises in which the outbreak occurred. The building was tenanted by Mrs Lee, proprietress of the "Tiffin" tea rooms, and by the Young Women's Christian Association. Mrs Hannah Barsht has a tailoring establishment next door ; and it was damaged by fire. Her stock, which was ont insured, was damaged by smoke and water. Mrs Lee is also uninsured. A policy of I £IOO on the. contents .of her tea rooms recently expired, and was not renewed.. A large quantity of water found its way to the basement of George Winder's ironmongery establishment, and damaged the contents. Some damage was also done by smoke and water to the contents of the blind and window furnishing department on the top floor of the same building. Mr Winder is fully insured, but the amount is not ascertainable. ... Mr Martin Kennedy 'owned the building, which was. destroyed. Jt was insured in tho Phoenix for £6OO.
