THE ADELAIDE TRAGEDY.
AN OPEN VERDICT
(Received Last Night, 11.30 o'clock.)
ADELAIDE. December 29
At the inquest on the Battye family, an open verdict ua.s returned, the jury stating that the evidence was insufficient to clear up the mystery of how the deaths occurred.
(The details of i\\r ea.se are that Mrs Battye and her baby were found dead in their home at Glanville, Adelaide, with their heads battered 'in. Later on the body of Battye was found in the river Torrens, at Port Adelaide, The room where the bodies of Mrs Battye and her child were found had been set alight, apparently in the endeavour to hide the crime. Battye was well off, and very affectionate to his wife and child. They had been married only two years. It is evident that the murder was committed while tho victims were asleep.)
