COST OF ADMINISTRATION.
»Mr George Laurenson, the member for Lytteiton, lias gone to some trouble to forcibly demonstrate, the extravagance of the present administration. In a post-sessional address he quoted figures to show that the revenue of the Dominion was barely four millions a year when the Liberal Party took office twenty years ago, whilst last year it was between nine and ten millions. Government has thus more than double the money to play with to-day than it Jiad twenty years ago. The cost of I administration has increased so J enormously, however, under the- j Liberal regime, that the increased ' revenue has proved quite and in the same period the national ', debt has increased from £38,830,350 to £74,890,645. Mr Laurenson and ', his friends woidd do well to ponder over the fact that to-day every man, woman and child in the Dominion is indebted to the- British money-lend-er to the extent of £72 I3s f)d."
