Many of the big shops, disregarding the amendment of the Act allowing i hem to open to-morrow, are opening to-night instead, making two busy nights in the city.
The Slaughterman's Wages Board has awarded the following wages:- — Mutton, slaughtermen, £4 per week; casuals, 15s per day, -to kill and dress fifty-flight sheep daily. Beef: — butchers, £4 ss; casuals, 17s per day, 4S hours per week.
The Executive has appointed Superintendent Day to be Inspector-Gen-eral of Police, replacing InspectorGeneral Garvin at the, end of ;.he year.
The Minister of Works stues v.hat under the Public? Works Act he -aas power to undertake definite work costing less than £20.000. He will almost immediately establish three State brick works.
