WORKMEN'S FRIEND BUILDING SOCIETY.

1 ANNUAL MEETING. TJie animal meeting ofsliarehoklers of-the Workmen's Friend Building Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms, Masterton, last evening. Mr W. H. Jackson, Chairman of ' Directors, presided over a large number of shareholders. The report and balance sheet, as I printed and circulated, was taken! as read. \ The chairman, in moving their adoption, said that the condition of the Society was good, and business rapidly improving. Applanations of £3OO had been advanced, and £9OO * approved, and the money was lying in the Post Office Savings Bank pending completion of securities. A reserve had been formed of shares which in an earlier period had been forfeited, but he trusted that nothing of the sort would arise in future, and hoped shareholders would continue the present prompt payment. A large number of new shares had been taken up, and applications were constantly coming in, and no doubt this resulted to a large extentthrough the fact that shareholders could join at any time without having to pay up -fr.be back money or make double payments. The motion for adoption was seconded by Mr T. Moor and carried unanimously.

The election of Directors was then proceeded with, Messrs T. Jenkins and D. Threadwell being appointed scrutineers. Messrs T. B. Braggins, B. Chapman, F. J. Huiin, and J. Shackleton were duly elected. Directors. Messrs Shackleton, Braggins, ana Chapman returned thanks. Mr J. Milne was re-elected shareholders' auditor. The chairman said that the Directors had in the past been earnest in the interests of the shareholders, and he urged the latter to press on all their friends the advantages of joining the Society early. The services of the organiser met with praise from the chairman and other Directors. On the motion of Mr Chapman, seconded by Mr T. B. Braggins, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Directors and retiring Directors.
