THE CRICKET COUNCIL.

AND THE PARK OYAL. A NEW ARRANGEMENT MADE. A. the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last evening, tho Town Clerk stated that he had received a sum of ~- 10s from the Cricket Council on account of the £l9 reported as owing. He had nothing further to add to his report.

Cr Morris thought the reputation of the Town Clerk and Council was at stake. He would like to know if it was a fact that £l9 was owing when the report was brought down. Cr Hoar suggested, humorously, that if there was anything now. owing by the cricketers, it should be wiped out. The Town Cierk stated that, as a matter of fact, there was £l9 owing when he reported: Of this sum, £6 10s was for the previous year, and.£l2 10s for the coming year, in advance.

Cr Temple, as a member of the old Park Committee, stated that ho. was under the impression that it had been arranged that the Cricket Council should pay £6 10s in December and £G 10s in March. If this was so, the Cleric's report was somewhat misleading.

The Mayor said he had searched the books, and could find no record of such an agreement. Cr Hoar stated that there was no doubt but that an agreement had been come to with the cricketers. The Council should stand by this agreement, whether it was on record or not.

Cr Elliott was under the impression that there had -been an agreement. The Mayor stated that, as-there was no record, the Town Clerk had acted rightly in reporting as tte had done.

Cr Hoar did not blame the Town Clerk in the matter.

The Mayor said that, from the records of the payments' made, there would appear to have boon some sort of an agreement. Cr Morris did not quite agree as to the nature of the agreement made.

Cr Elliott was of opinion that it was a mistake to have placed the cricketers on the "black list," when, apparently, only £6 10s was owing. The Town Clerk asked for some definite decision in the matter. After some discussion, it was decided, on the motion of Cr Hoar, that the use of the Park Oval be granted the Cricket Council on the payment of £l2 10s annually at the end of January.
