WAINGAWA FREEZING WORKS.

AN INFORMAL OPENING CEREMONY. The Waingawa works of the Wellington Farmers' ; Meat Company (which have reGently been completed), commenced operations punctually at on© o'clock yesterday afternoon, when tho boards were occupied by twelve butchers, and a draft of 400 lambs from Tinui were put through. Tho arrival upon the sceno of Mr J. C Cooper, Managing Director of the Company, in company with Mr R. Geddes, a representative of a London meat firm, at two o'clock, was the signal for a cessation of work, and all hands assembled on tho .slaughter-board. There were also present a largo number of settlers, and visitors from various parts of the Dominion.

Mr C. Hausrnann, tho works manager, addressed those present, and introduced the managing director to the employees. In his remarks he stated that it was doubtless one of the. proudest moments in Mr Cooper's life to find that, after •seven years' work, the establishment of. the industry in which he was so deeply concerned was an accomplished fact.

Three cheers were then called for Mr Cooper, and were lustily given by the large assemblage. Mr Copper briefly responded, stating that he hoped that the relations between the Directors, management and workmen would always be of a most cordial character.

The delegate of the Butchers.' Union,, who was. present, stated that he had no doubt that the best of relations would always exist between the management and the men.

maun). The staff then resumed work,
