Eraser having ac« cepted the position of Superinendent of Home Missions in connection with the Presbyterian Assembly, resigned his seat on the Otago Education Board. He intends settling in the North Island. The Education iioard has granted ex-Inspactor Goyen twelve months leave of absence. MAN LOST OVERBOARD. CHRIHTCHURCE, Last Night. £ An elderly man named Lawrence was lost overboaid from the fercy steamer Maori this morning, when he vessel was about two miles off Lyttelton Heads. A sailor who was working on the upper deck heard a splash, an.l saw a man struggling in the water. Lifebelts were thrown to overboard, cue dropping within a yard or two of the man, and a boat was lowered as soon as possible,while the steamer went astern. A search was continued for a couple of hours, but the man was not again seen. ihe Maori arrived late in port, and passengers for the south missed the first expiesg.
ACQUITTED OF PERJUkY. GREYMOUTH, Last Night. Constable Martin v\ai acquitted on the charge d£ perjury, the jury aaying that owing to the confiietory evidence they gave him the benefit of the doubt.
