The death of Mrs Eddy will draw attention to the enormous growth of the Christian Science movement, which is one of the most striking events of our time. In forty years it has developed until it counts'over a million adherents, and 4000 practitioners of its healing art. And this result is the more remarkable, that ilie founder was not distinguished by any special mental ability. Her famous work, "Science and Health," is a farrago of nonsense. It is badly written, incoherent, and often quite unintelligible. And, as we know, it is claimed that it is not even an original work, but was based on the writings of another and earlier exponent of faith-healing and its philosophy. And yet the book- is read with feelings of something akin to reverence by. v a million of our fellow creatures.
