"SCENE" AT BOROUGH COUNCIL
THE MAYOR AND CE. EWINGTON.
Something approaching a "scene" occurred at the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last evening. Councillor Ewington had been referring to the proposal to substitute sixinch sewage pipes in Lincoln Road with nine-inch pipes. u a He stated that he*was satisfied with the opinion of Mr Leslie Reynolds, who was an engineer. The Mayor stated that he was going to take the opinion of their engineer on the subject. "Councillor Ewington: I am taking the advice of a man who is an engineer. The Mayor: remark is uncalled for! Councillor Ewingtm: I will not withdraw i h » Ihe Mayor: ihat shows your very bad taste, and your disrespect for the chair. Councillor Ewington: You did not ! ask me to withdraw. The Mayor: You should not require to be asked. You should know how to behave yourself. Councillor Ewington: I have, behaved myself. Sfou have shown bias. The Mayor: I have done no such thing. ■ Other Councillors then'took a hand, and the incident closed.
