AMUSEMENTS.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. Another large audience at the Foresters' Hall last evening spoke eloquently of the general excellence of the current series of motion pictures. The great attraction was the splendid film depicting the sculling race for the championship of the world between Dick Arnst, of New Zealand, and Ernest Barry, of England. This picture met with an enthusiastic reception. Of the dramatic studies presented, "A Wireless Romance" appeared to be the favourite with last night's audience. A cleverly worked-out subject, it shows how villainy was defeated by means of wireless telegraphy. "The Fire Chief's Daughter," "The Bridal Dress," and "The Secret of a Glacier" also came in for well-merited applause. The scenic, comic and instructive pictures were very much enjoyed, the whole going to make up an excellent programme. Patrons will bo Afforded a last opportunity this evening of witnessing the present series of pictures. The programme to be placed before patrons to-morrow night will include "Peg Waffington," a drama taken from Charles Jleade's famous novel "Estrellita," a. military drama of the days of the French invasion of Portugal in 1807. "Her First Appearance," a stirring story of stage life; "Hamlet," a Shakespearian drama; and "The Ranger's Bride, a cowboy picture, will make up the programme. On Saturday afternoon there will be the usual children's free matinee.
