SHEARERS' DEMANDS.

THE POVERTY BAY CASE. The thirteen clauses which were deleted from the demands made by the Poverty Bay shearers, were briefly as follows:---Clause 9: Payment of Is 3d per hour for lost time through stoppage of machinery; failing to start shearing on date of advice or shortage of supply of sheep. Clause 23: No shearer to hold dual position of shearer and expert. Clause 24: Payment of 2s 6d per 100 extra for shearer acting as expert. Clause 25: No barring allowed. Clause 27 Shearer not to do expert's grinding. Clause 30: Food not to be supplied by contract. Clause 33: Clock to be placed in shearing shed. Clause 35: Machines to be placed sft 6in apart in new sheds. Clause 36: New sheds to have single catching pens, and shearing board not to be more than Bft wide. tClause 40: In event of shearer leaving or being discharged, employer to have „ ahearers' horse caught. Clause 43: Duplicate machine parts to be kept. Clause 44: Acceptance of member's ticket in lieu of money deposit. Clause 45: Payment ol shearer's conveyance to station.

REFERKED TO THE COURT. Seventeen clauses wilt be refened to the Arbitration Court] for settlement. Summarised they are aa follows:—2. Preference to members of Association. 4. JNo dagging to be done by shearers. 5. Crutching to be paid for at 5s per 100 and found, dagging 3s 6d per 100 and found. 6. Hours of work. 7. Price of shearing flock sheep £i per 100 and found. 8. Price of shearing stud sheep, £2 per 100 and found. 19. Shearers not to contract to shear sheep other than those he intends shearing himself. 21. Machinery and expert . shearers to decide whether expert is competent. 29. Employer to provide food in sufficient quantity,. 32. Employer to provide buckets and boiler for washing. 34. Supply of tally board. 37. Shearers to draw lots for pens. 38. One learner for every eight shearers. 39. Payment of certified orders. Representativea of Association to be allowed to visit shearing sheds. 42. Price of requisites. 46. Supply medicine chest. 47. Experts' wages.
