TE WHARAU.
Splendid rains fell here on Saturday and Sunday. The country is looking fresh and green, and all idea of drought should be dispelled. Shearing operations are again suspended, and the shearers, with their usual ' 4 sang froid," are enjoying themselves in various ways. Shearing should be completed in this district by the end of the month. The friends of Mr Freebody, of Te Wharau, will regret to hear that he met with a rather severe accident on Saturday, when owing to a nasty fall near his home he badly fractured one of his thighs. The old gentleman was conveyed to the Masteiton Hospital on Sunday in the ambulance, and at latest advices he was doing as well as could be expected. Another engagement has just b.een announced in the district, and it is expected that in the near future Te Wharau people will have quite a number of weddings to relieve the monotony of country ife. Messrs Douglas and Barrer were present at last week's County meeting, and returned home on Friday. The Committee for the Homewood Sports have issued their programme for the forthcoming meeting, and the stakes being on a liberal scale for ail events, good entries should be received. Messrs Matheson and Brechin, late of Glenburn, are at present residing in Te Wharau, where they are spending a few weeks prior to leaving'for the South. Mr S. Gilmer, of Wellington, who has lately returned from an extended tour of the world, is residing at Bankview for a few weeks.
