Bro. W. H. Partridge has been appointed to represent the Rechabite Tent at the District meeting at Napier in February. The Committee of the local public, library have lately added a number of new books to, the library s shelves. At a meeting of the Totara Lodge of Druids the following nominations were received for the various offices for the ensuing term:—A.D., Bro. F. Roydhouse; V.A., Bro. R. (Janton, K. Smith and W, Abbott; secretary, Bro. h. Hart; treasurer, Bro. W. H. Bailie; 1.G., Bro3. Canton and Abbott; G.G., Bro. P. Ashton; A.D.B.'s, Bro. Thomas and Hannah; V.A.B.'b, Bros. P. Reed and Abbott; musician, Bro. V. Fairbrolher; auditor, Bro. W. W. Mansfield. Bro. C. Reid Was appointed delegate to the Grand Lodge meeting at Auckland in February. It was resolved to contribute towards the guarantee for a special train for Boxing Day picnic. One member was initiated, and two friend 3 proposed for membership. A party of local farmers left here yesterday for the Whereroa State Farm, for the purpose of inspecting the stud dairy stock, and gaining knowedge generally of the crojDs and experiments. A local poultry fancier, Mr W. Tucker, who was very successful with the Brown Leghorn variety,
and a little time bsck disposed of his flock, has decided to try Black Leghorns, having purchased a pen of' this variety. On the howling green on Tuesday evening, in the pairs tourney, A. Ramsay and H. Hall defeated W. Hamer and F. Kawlings, 17 to 9. In the singles, H. Neilsen beat E, Hall 22 to 18. The information contained in yesterday's issue, that the erection of a school at I'arrington is to be proceeded with, came as welcome news to the settlers on this settlement. The adjourned meeting of the local Friendly Societies' Council, and delegates from the Wairarapa Lodges take place here to-night, and 'deal with matters pertaining tc the combined picnic on B;xing Day. The committee of the local branch of the Wairarapa Egg Circle met last night, and went into the matter of obtaining concessions ii the purchasing of poultry foods for it members. At a meeting of the Borough Council on Tuesday eveivng, Dr Johnston reported a case of diphtheria in Belvedere Street. 'J he local Borough overseer lias rei eeived instructions to prosecute persons caught wasting the liigh pressure water supply. Of late the pressure guage at the Fire Brigade station has eldom reached 501b.
