MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of! the Council was held on Saturday, the 26th inst. Present—Crs P. W. • H. Kummer, chairman, H. J. Dagg, C. Forsberg, 0. lsaakson, and C. Churchill Jackson. The District Engineer, in reply to a suggestion which the Clerk was ( directed at the previous meeting to forward to him, wrote, stating that he cannot authorise any departure from the amended specifications for the metalling of Mangaoronga road. The Napier Chamber of Commerce requested support to scheme for developing electric power from Waikaremoana. —Letter received. Messrs Renall Bros, wrote directing notice to the need , for some improvement to the ford at Kaipororo over Makakahi river, and Mr A. F. Welch to damaged bridge on Mt. Bruce road —Both matters were attended to prior to the present meeting. The manager of the Shannon Land and Sawmill Company, wrote approving of rates being handed to the Horowhenua County Council for expenditure on the road giving access to the Company's land Three balance sheets were adopted, having been certified as correct by the Auditor-General. i It was resolved to use thegCouncil's own carts for metalling the Mangaoronga road. The Councillors appointed at last meeting to inspect culvert on main road at Mangamahoe, reported that the culvert is sound, and as far as ■ the drainage of th& road is con cerned • no lowering of the culvert is needed. 'lhe Clerk was instructed to notify Mr Heckler if he still wishes the culvert lowered, and will guarantee to refund the cost of doing so, the Council will then get the culvert lowered. Accounts amounting to £97 6s lid were passed for payment. The next ordinary meeting will be held on Thursday, the 22nd December.
