WAIRARAPA AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB.
«•> ■ OFFICIAL OPENING OF SEASON. At a well attended meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club, Mr J. Pryor, captain, occupied the chair. A considerable amount of routine business was transacted, and the final arrangements were made for the excellent programme of the Grand Aquatic Carnival and Sports to be held on the Masterton Park Lake on Anniversary Day next, January 23rd. 1911. i The Committee have also arranged to present on tha r . evening a brilliant display of fireworks by the Miramar Fireworks Company. This will be absolutely the finest display ever given in Masterton. It was resolved that the official opening of the Club for this season take place on the Park Lake on Thursday afternoon, December Bth. Two races will be held, each 66yds and 100 yds, post entries, and if seven or more starters in each event a second prize will be given. Swimming having recently received considerable encouragement in other centres of the Dominion, it is ' anticipated that Masterton will not be backward in making a progressive movement, and a very successful season is expected The question was discussed of approaching the Borough Council with regard to shifting the Tea Kiosk from its present position to one much more convenient, adjacent to the Park Lake. It was resolved that a deputation wait upon the Council with respect to this; also agreeing towards subsidising the Council in the cost of shifting the Kiosk, up to £l2 10s.
