THE SHEARING TROUBLE.
A MISLEADING REPORT. A somewhat sensational report has been pnbli.. li.'A in the New Zealand Times concerning the trouble which arose at a Waiinn'oru station in ve.ganl to the shearers, and which was reeorde.! in the Age last week. The Times has enlarged upon the incident, and liiiide it appear that a general strike is likely to occur. There is absolutely no foundation for such a report. The men who refused 19s 6d per 100—the award wage—have been replaced by other men, and shearing is proceeding in the district without any further trouble. Iftrouble should arise, it will be next season, when the owners as a body will insist upon the award wage being paid. The owners are this year, as a rule, paying 20s per 100 all round, as they, engaged thearers at this price before the awr.nl was made.
