BOWLING TIT-BITS.

Saturday proved an ideal day for bowling, and there was the largest attendance on the local green since the opening day. The players are developing keenness in the season advances, and consequently play is of the ' 'fighting" order. Thanks to the custodian, the green is fast and true, which members are not slow to appreciate. ******

So far sixteen new members have been elected, and several others are contemplating membership. This accession of strength will do much to popularise the game, as moit of the new devotees are becoming keen, and will, no doubt, get others to join in the ancient pastime. » a # * * *

The lo:al club can now boast of.a family team of bowlers m the persons of Me-.srs W., E„ O, and A. PragnelJ, respe ctiveJy, father ar.d three sons, tor A. Pragnell has been a member for about a fortnight, but shows great promise. It is on the cards that the "family team" will challenge the "Buckle"' or "Pennant" holder?. r..- M * * * * On Thursday next five teams of Masterton bowlers will journey to the Lower Hutt, to try conclusions with the pick ,of the Lower Hutt club, Theßutt bowlers are extrerr.e"y hospitable, and whenever our beys visit them they are given a good time. Already the required number have handed in their names to travel. 'lhe last contest .between the two clubs took place at Masterton, when Masterton proved successful. The Huttites are going to try to recap, ture their lovt laurels, but our boys are determined that they shall not do so. ******

Entries for the club competitions will close on Saturday, November 12th. Members are urged to place their names on t e list posted up in the pavilion for that purpose, as the Match Committee is determined not to allow late entries under any cir cumstances whatever. A strong combination, under the skippership of Reed, challenged the, holders of the "Pennants''' to a game for the coveted trophy. Reed's team comprised Fowler, lead; Guild No. 2, and T. Cresswell No. 3; whilst the defenders were H. Beale, W. H. Cole, T. Jnder, and E. R. Cameron skip. The game proved very onesided, Cameron's team only succeeding m scoring 10, whilst the challengers rattled up 27 in great style. At the conclusion of the eighth head the score stood, challengers 16, holders 27. The holders then added six to their score in the next five heads, after which the challengers gradually drew away and increased their lead to 17 points ere the game finished. Already the victors have been challenged for next Saturday, but it will need a strong team to defeat them.
