ROMNEY SHEEP.
THE SHORT CHAMPIONSHIP
Great interest was taken by Wairarapa and other breeders of Romney Marsh sheep in what is known as the "Short Competition," at the Manawatu Show. Mr E. Short, the well-known Parorangi breeder, offered £IOO in prizes for the best Romncy ram, New Zealand bred and registered in the New Zealand Flock Books; first prize £SO, second £3O, third, £ls; for best and neatest shearer, prizes of £3 and £2 arc offered. The sheep were judged first in wool, 25 points for type, 25 for wool. All the rams are then shorn and rejudged, a maximum 50 points being fixed for best shaped sheep. Two judges were appofn'ted. There 1 were seven entries, so only half the prize money was awarded. After long investigation by the judges the first prize was awarded to W. Gibson, Foilding, the second to A.and J. Gray, Masterton, and third, H. S. Badlield, Parnparaumu. Gray Bros, were winners in 1908 and ~E. Short last year. Mr W. Rnyner, of Masterton, was fourth, and McGregor Bros, lifththis year.
