CAPTAIN SCOTT.
RECEPTION AT CHRISTCHURCH.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CBRI3TCHURCH, Saturday.
Captain Scott arrived from Wellington this morning, and was given a public reception at noon. There was a representative gathering of i citizens, and the Mayor expressed ] the pleasure of the people of Christ J church in having Captain Scott again j amongst them, and the conndence | that he would carry out the enter- ! priae in a highly creditable manner. ' He assured Captajn Scott of the willingness of the Christchurch people to assist whereever possible. Mr K. M. Laing, President of the Philosophical Society, and Bishop Grimes also spoke. Captain Scott, replying, thanked the people of the City for the welcome. He knew he had the sympathy of New Zealand, and the best way the public could assist now was by leaving the members of the Expedition in peace to carry out the hard work of the next month preparing for the final departure. Captain Scott was accorded a splendid reception.
Captain Scott visits the dogs and ponies at Quail Island, to-morrow, and the Terra Nova will be docked on Wednesday or Thursday, and probably call at Port Chalmers on her way to the Antarctic to top off her coal supply.
