TRAGIC OCCURRENCE.

GISBORNE, Lats Night, Yesterday a young married man named Watts, employed on the Pahaiatu station, gashed his foot badly with an axe. He was being brought to town for medical assistance, when the horse in the gig bolted, and the vehicle, which capsized, rolled into the. river. The occupants were thrown clear. Alfred R, Winkworth, a roadman, employed by the County Council, went into the river to liberate the horse, and was drowned. Watts was brought to the hospital at 3 o'clock in the morning.
