BALLARAT BAND CONTEST.

WANGANUI FLAYERS SUCCESSFUL.

Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock. MELBOURNE, October 18. In the Ballarat Brass Band Competition, the horn solos are finished. Out of forty-four competitors, Cowes. of Wanganui, secured third place. There were eighty-eight competitors in the B flat comet contest, in which Buckley, of Wanganui, tied with Gore, of Victoria,- for first place. The NewZealander was beaten in the play-cff, Gore getting the possible. McComas, of Victoria, was third. In the baritone contest, Jensen, of Wanganui, was first: Harrop, Victoria, tecond; and Helm, Vicoria, third. The judge remarked that the standard of playing equalled ttiat of England.
