CEOTESE STEAMER BURNT A HUNDRED AND FIFTY LIVES LOST. Keceived October 10, 8.5 a.m. PEKIN, October 9. The steamer Kum Chow has been i burned in Chinese waters. A hundred and fifty lives were lost BRITISH STEAMER ON THE ROCKS. Received October 10,9.20 a.m. SAN FRANCISCO, October 9. The British steamer Demara is on j the rocks at Golden Gate harbour. She was caught on the ebb tide in a fog. No livea were lost.
BARQUES JNE'S ROUGH PASSAGE. Received October 10, 10 a.m. SYDNEY, October 9. The barquentine Gleaner has arrived here from Kureka, U.S., badly damaged and waterlogged. The vessel encountered strong gales, and was! compelled to jettison fifty thousand feet of timber. STEAMER ASHORE.
Received October 10, 9.50 a.m. HOBAKT October 9. The steamer Nubeena, 138 tons, oound from Tasman's Peninsula to Bobart, is ashore at Frederick Benry Bay. The passengers and crew were landed safely. It is not thought that the vessel will be refloated.
taiyuan's damage. Received October 10, 9.50 a.m. SYDNEY, October 9. A survey of the steamer Taiyuan, which sprang a leak in the harbour just before sailing for Bongkong, revealed a hole an inch and a half in diameter. She is expected to sail to-morrow.
