The- death occurrp-:! in the Masterton Hospital on Saturday of Mr. James Farmer, of Mauriceville.

Mr. Ziman, of Auckland, who was the Rhode-: scholar in 1908, has been appointed to the Indian Cioil Service in Bombay.

His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by his private secretary, motored through to Featherston yesterday. He will remain in. the Wairarapa for some days. At a meeting yesterday of the directors of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society, Mr. J. C. Boddington was rc-ofceted chairman, which position he has held continuously since 1880. Mrs. F. Sehormann, senr., of Managoronga, near Eketahuna, died on Sunday. The deceased lady was wellknown' and highly respected in the Forty-Mile Bush. Her husband predeceased her by a few years. Mr. C. H. Poole, M.P., who gave addresses at the Y.M.C.A. and in the Methodist Church in Masterton on Sunday, returned to Wellington yesterday.

Archdeacon York, of Grey mouth, will have completed a 25 years' ministry in the Anglican Church on St. Andrew's Day (3l)th November next), nearly the whole of which has been spent on the West Coast.

Mr. George Coniictt, ii well-known resident of Taransiki, died at New riymoutli on Thursday last. Deceased, who was a brother of Mr. J. B. Connett, was employed as locomotive engineer at the harbour works. He loaves si widow suid a large family.

Mr. H. It. Holder, who died sit Okoroire on Tuesday, was 58 years of age, and. came to Nelson from England with his wife and son James in 1859. Shortly afterwards lie went to Napier, where he started in business as a saddler, and carried it on till 1887. In the early days of Woodville he had .bought a very fine block 'Of land (Riverside), and on retiring from business he settled on it. He farmed it very successfully till a few years ago, when he decided to seek a moreicongenial climate, and re- | moved to Morrinsville, and later on I to Okoroire, where he had been reI siding since.
