A YOUNG MAN'S DEATH.
Mr Charles Stanley Ellison, second son of Inspector J. Ellison, who is in charge of the police force of the Wellington district, met with his death in sad circumstances on Sunday evening. It is believed that the young man, who had suffered to some extent from a weak heart, had spent Saturday night in wandering about in the open air, and being tired and footsore, went to Staples Brewery in Molesworth street for rest. He is said to have known the brewery and several persons there. On Sunday night, at about 9.20, the nightwatchman observed a light burning in a room adjoining the bottle store, and 6n opening the door of a room near by to investigate, found the apartment full of gas, and young Ellison's dead body lying on the floor. Strange to say, Inspector Ellison himself wa< just then passing the brewery in the course of an official round, when a man rushed out and called for a doctor.! he inspector went in, only to find his'son lying lifeless on the floor.
Medical assistance .was summoned, and Drs. Izard and Carr attempted artificial respiration, without success. There ia a small gas-heater in the room, and a rubber tube is attached to this. It is surmised that Young Ellison may have tripped over the tube and wrenched it away from the
Deceased was 24 yeara oi age, and of late had been employed in the Post and Telejiaph Stores. During the past week, however, he had not been in regular employment.
