FIRE IN MASTERTON.
rilX-FOOMED HOUSE DESTROYED.
A fire occurred in Masterton at two o'ctock this morning, by which a six roomed house in Dixon Street, owned and occupied by Mr G. Sowmar, together with its. contents, was totally destroyed by fire. ..The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr Sowman, who was alone in the houee, wa& awakened by a suffocating sensation, arid rushed out to find tha liousa in flames. Only a few articles of furniture were saved. Mr Sowman spent the evening with some friends, and when he retired, about 11 o'clock, everything was apparently safe. The fire appeals to have originated in a front bedroom. The huilcing was insured for £3OO, and the furniture for £175. A building adjoining caught fire, but, at the time of our going to press, there were prospects of saving it.
