ELOCUTIONARY CONTESTS.
The institution of musical and elocutionary contests in various parts of the Dominion is having a very wholesome effect in stimulating emulation and efficiency in these two important branches of intellectual attainment. Dunedin, Napier, New Plymouth, and other centres have had their elocutionary contests, and now Palmerston North is following in the wake. Why should not Masterton have its annual contest? The competition engendered would quicken the enthusiasm of the various literary and debating institutions in the district, and would produce excellent results. The matter is one which might very properly be taken up by the Managers of our Technical School.
