AN OVERSIGHT.

By a strange oversight, no provision is made in the new Land Bill to relieve those whose properties may be acquired for leasing purposes from the operations of the graduated land tax. If this tax were imposed, a gross injustice would clearly be done. When the attention of the Prime Minister was drawn to the matter, he stated that the exemption had been omitted purely by oversight. It can hardly be expected that a comprehensive measure, such as that introduced, will be perfect in detail. There are eighty members of Parliament, however, plus the "revising Chamber," who are specially paid by the country to dissect legislation which may be introduced, and to see that it is placed upon the Statute Book in something like a workable condition.
