SUPPLIES FOR SUB-COM-MIT! EES.
MEIHOD OF GRANTING
When the question of granting supplies to the different sub-cumnnt-tees came before the Wairarapa Hospital andXChar?table Aid Board jesterday, Mr D. Crewe, of Pahiatua, muved that the sum proposed to be granted to the Masterton Committee ba reduced from £721 sa,the amount Sit down, to £573., Mr Crewe pointed out that the iarger amount included suite for » septic tank, grounds, furnishing, etc. The only vote made the Committee should be for ordinary maintenance. The question of septic tank, etc., should come before the Finance Coram t e « Mr Bennett seconded the resolution. Mr Ewington opposed the resolution, He pointed out that a certain sum of money had been provided on the estimates, and the £721 5a was J the quarterly amount allocated to Masterton. He thought the resolution: nf Mr Crewe might be regarded aa a vote of want of confidence in the Masterton Cammittee. The Chairman: If I was a member of the Masterton Committee, I should treat it as a vote of want of confidence.
Mr Cornelius thought the resolution passed at the last meeting, viz , that no extraordinary expenditure of a "larger sum than £25 could be made without the authority of tin Board, covered the whole position. Messrs McL?od and Morrison supported the Finance Committee. Mr Moss, while approving of the racommendation of the Finance .Committee, thought that the Board should be furnished with fuller information concerning the expenditure. Mr Moore supported the lecomnwndation of the Finance Committee. At the same time he thought Mr Crewe's resolution: would do no harm, as it would show'the sub committees that the Board required full details of the expenditure. \
-Mr Crewe,, in reply, cited certain items::•.if r theerttimates-' of the Masterton Committer, which, in his" opinion, were not warranted. He wanted to be satisfied that the amount asKed for w«j leally required for martsiM' >"p. He was going to question ihe amount set down for honorary surgeon, besides othtjr items* The whole of the accounts should be dealt with in a business-like manner. Unless the accounts were handled properly, Eke ' tahuna and Pahiatua woultfprobably take steps to form a separate hospital district. Mr Ewington suggested that the whole of the accounts of the subcommittees should be passed by the Board. The resslution of Mr Crewe wa&, then put and loJt on division, thcs: voting for it being Messrs Crewe, Bolton and Bennett. The item as brought down by the Finance Committee was passed. Mr Crewe subsequently moved that before supplies are granted in future a full statement be furnished by the Committees of the expenditure of the previous three months.* Mr Bennett seconded. Mr Ewington suggested that each secretary furnish to the Board every nomth a statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Committee, together with further details. Mr Crewe agreed with this suggestion, and altered his resolution accordingly. The amended resolution was then carried on tne voices.
